Real photographs and micrographs

Every clinical photograph, micrograph and radiograph in the Atlas is a real image of a real patient or specimen, used under an open licence (CC0, public domain, CC BY or CC BY-SA). Thank you to the photographers and authors below. We cropped and resized the images and added numbered markers and labels; our adaptations of CC BY-SA images are shared under the same licence.

AI illustrations

A few technique and body-shape plates (marked AI ILLUSTRATION on the image and in the table above) use AI-generated photographs where no sharp open-licence photograph shows the point clearly — how to palpate a node, raise a skin tent, or read a body-condition outline. They are checked by our veterinary editor and are never used for micrographs, radiographs or as proof of a diagnosis.

Scene photographs — AI-generated

The photographs of veterinarians at work on the homepage, the module cards and the page banners are AI-generated (Higgsfield) and checked by our editor for realistic hands, instruments and anatomy. They show setting and technique only — they are never used as evidence of a clinical finding.
